In this paper, the author proves a ``vanishing result for critical points of the supersymmetric nonlinear sigma model on complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds of positive Ricci curvature that admit an Euclidean type Sobolev inequality, assuming that the dimension of the domain is bigger than two and that a certain energy is sufficiently small.'' In other words, the author ``establishes a criterion that ensures that solutions of the critical points of the supersymmetric nonlinear sigma must be trivial''. The proof of the main result is inspired from a global pinching lemma from [\textit{Z. Zhou} and \textit{Q. Chen}, ``Global pinching lemmas and their applications to geometry of submanifolds, harmonic maps and Yang-Mills fields'', Adv. Math. (China) 32, No. 3, 319--326 (2003)] and a recent result on biharmonic maps [\textit{V. Branding}, Arch. Math. 111, No. 3, 329--336 (2018; Zbl 1400.58003)]. The paper is carefully written and its introduction contains a good description of the mathematical framework to be used.
