    Let \(a,b\) be integers with \(b>0\) and \(\gcd(a,b)=1\). The Dedekind sum \(s(a,b)\) is defined as \[ s(a,b)=\sum_{u=1}^{b}\left(\left(\frac{u}{b}\right)\right) \left(\left(\frac{au}{b}\right)\right), \] where \[ \left(\left(x\right)\right)=\left\{\begin{array}{ll} \{x\}-\frac{1}{2}, & x\not\in \mathbb{Z}, \\ 0, & x\in \mathbb{Z}. \end{array} \right. \] The normalized Dedekind sum \(S(a,b)\) is denoted by \[ S(a,b)=12 s(a,b). \] The author studies the range of possible values for \(\displaystyle S(a,b)=\frac{k}{q}\) with \(\gcd(k,q)=1\), and provides progress towards a general approach.
