Homological properties of the algebra of compact operators on a Banach space (Q1638058)

The paper deals with the approximation property of Banach spaces. The author gives some equivalent conditions for a Banach space \(E\) (or its dual \(E^*\)) to have the approximation property. These equivalent conditions involve the (universally) flatness properties of the norm closure of the ideal of finite rank operators on \(E\oplus C_p\) (or on \(E\oplus C_p\oplus C[0, 1]\)), where \(1\leqslant p\leqslant\infty\) and \(C_p\) is the Banach space defined by \textit{W. B. Johnson} [Isr. J. Math. 9, 337--345 (1971; Zbl 0236.47045)].
