A result of \textit{G. Glauberman} [Pac. J. Math. 56, 469--476 (1975; Zbl 0274.20023)] states that if \(G\le \operatorname{GL}(n,p)\) is a \(p'\)-group which is nilpotent of class \(2\), then \(|G| < p^n\) . The main result of this paper extends it to the residual for the largest nilpotent of class \(2\) quotient of \(G\) if \(G\) is a finite soluble group: If \(G\) is a finite soluble group and \(V\ne 0\) is a finite faithful completely reducible \(G\)-module, possibly of mixed characteristic, then \(|{G:[G,G,G]}| < |V|\). Moreover, in this case, \(|G/[G,G,G]| < |{\operatorname{F}(G)}/[{\operatorname{F}(G)},{\operatorname{F}(G)},{\operatorname{F}(G)}]|\), where \(\operatorname{F}(G)\) denotes the Fitting subgroup of \(G\). The authors present some examples to show that the bound is tight.
