The authors investigate shift spaces over countable alphabets which admit an inverse semigroup operation. It is showed when zero-dimensional inverse semigroups can be regarded as shift spaces with a 1-block operation which arises from a group operation on the alphabet. Motivated by this, they study block operations on shift spaces. The main result of this paper states that Markovian shift spaces, which can be endowed with a 1-block inverse semigroup operation, are conjugate to the product of a full shift with a fractal shift.
