The paper begins with an example of pointwisely convergent trigonometric series which is not the Fourier series of an absolutely integrable function: \[ u_L (\theta) = \sum _{n=2} ^\infty \frac{1}{\log n} \sin n \theta, \;\;\; \theta \in \mathbb{T}^1 = \mathbb{R} / (2\pi \mathbb{Z}). \] The limit can be interpreted as a distribution, smooth on \(\mathbb{T}^1 \setminus 0\). Its asymptotic behavior appears to be much more complex than a behavior of the slightly more singular distribution \[ \sum _{n=2} ^\infty (\log n) \sin n \theta, \;\;\; \theta \in \mathbb{T}^1 = \mathbb{R} / (2\pi \mathbb{Z}). \] The paper is devoted to a thorough study of the asymptotics of \( u_L \) and similar distributions. An important technical tool in the study, apart from a variety of other techniques, is a class of special functions similar to those studied in [\textit{B. Ziemian}, Diss. Math. 264, 56 p. (1988; Zbl 0685.46025)], [\textit{Z. Szmydt} and \textit{B. Ziemian}, The Mellin transformation and Fuchsian type partial differential equations. Dordrecht etc.: Kluwer Academic Publishers (1992; Zbl 0771.35002)] and [\textit{B. Ziemian}, The Mellin transformation and microlocal singularities of distributions. Differential equations and applications I, II]. Formulation of the main results and clarifying explanations are exposed in the introduction. For example, it is noted that, although the distributions under consideration are not polyhomogeneous, asymptotic expansions proposed in this paper may give a relevant information about their behavior. A separate section is devoted to meromorphic families of tempered distributions. Asymptotics in higher dimensions and further generalizations are discussed in Sections 8--10.
