In this paper, the authors give another proof of Grothendieck's theorem on the splitting of vector bundles on the projective line over a field \(k\). The theorem is formulated in the classical terms of a lattice as follows. Let \(K_\infty \cong k((1/T))\) be the completion of the field of rational functions \(k(T)\) with respect to the valuation \(| \ |_\infty\) at the place \(\infty\). Let \(\Lambda \cong k[T]^d\) be a lattice discretely embedded into the vector space \(V \cong K_\infty^d\). \\ \textbf{Theorem 2.1.} There exist a basis \(v_1, \dots, v_d \in V\) of the \(\mathcal{O}_\infty\)-lattice \(\Lambda_\infty\) and integers \(n_1, \dots, n_d\) such that \(\pi^{n_1} v_1, \dots, \pi^{n_d} v_d\) is a basis of the \(k[T]\)-lattice \(\Lambda\). If \(\mathcal{E}\) is the associated vector bundle, then it splits into line bundles \[ \mathcal{E} \cong \mathcal{O}(n_1) \oplus \cdots \oplus \mathcal{O}(n_d). \] To prove this result, the authors make use of the result of \textit{E.-U. Gekeler} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 754, 87--141 (2019; Zbl 1444.11124)] on the successive minimum basis of a \(k[T]\)-lattice.The proof uses only simple results on finite dimensional vector spaces over a discretely valuated complete field.
