The Faber-Krahn inequality is the first where a domain is given which minimize the first Dirichlet eigenvalue among a set of domains. A similar result is given in the paper under review. Let \(A\) be an annulus in \( \mathbb{R}^2 \) with the radii \( R_1 > R_2 \) and \( \lambda_1(A) < \lambda_2(A) \le \lambda_3(A) \le ... \) denote the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the Laplacian on \(A\) and let \(\Sigma\) be a compact connected smoothly immersed surface of revolution in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) with the same boundary components then the main result of the paper is Theorem 1.1. If \(\Sigma \) is not isometric to \(A\), then, for \(j=1,2,\dots,\) \[ \lambda_j(\Sigma) < \lambda_j(A). \] This is not the case for surfaces which are not surfaces of revolution. A similar result for a disc is given in [``A disc maximizes Laplace eigenvalues among isoperimetric surfaces of revolution'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1410.1847}] by the same author.
