It is an open question whether every discrete group is sofic, which means it can be metrically approximated by finite permutation groups with the Hamming distance. This question led to many generalizations, one of them was shown in the present paper: There exists a sequence \((G_n,\lambda_n)\) of finite groups with left-invariant metric \(\lambda_n\) such that every separable topological group with left-invariant metric can be isometrically embedded in the ultraproduct of the groups \(G_n\).
