In the article, the authors show that rank-one convexity implies quasiconvexity on the \(2\times 2\) upper triangular matrices, and give some consequences and related results. Particularly, it is shown that every homogeneous gradient Young measure \(\mu\) supported on matrices of the form \(\begin{pmatrix} a_{1,1} & \cdots & a_{1,n-1} & a_{1,n} \\ 0 & \cdots & 0 & a_{2,n} \end{pmatrix}\) is a laminate, i.e., the inequality \(f(\bar\mu)\leq \int f d\mu\) for all quasiconvex \(f:\mathbb M^{2 \times n} \rightarrow\mathbb R\), where \(\bar \mu=\int Xd\mu(X)\) is the barycenter of \(\mu\), holds. This result on upper-triangular matrices is used to prove the same result on the 3-dimensional nonlinear submanifold \(X\) of \(\mathbb M^{2 \times 2}\) defined by \(\mathrm{det }X=0\) and \(X_{12}>0\).
