Data assimilation for the heat equation using stabilized finite element methods (Q1651000)

This paper focuses on the data assimilation problem for the heat equation using a finite element space semi-discretization. The optimization approach is used, but for the design of regularization operators and parameters the techniques from the theory of stabilized finite elements are used. The semi-discretized system is shown to have a unique solution. Further, the error estimates are shown, reflecting the approximation order of the finite element space and the stability of the continuous model.
