For \(k>0\) odd and a normalised Hecke eigenform \(g\in S_{2k}\) for \(\operatorname{SL}(2,{\mathbb Z})\), we have the Saito-Kurokawa lift \(F_g\), a Siegel cusp form of weight \(k+1\), and in the other direction a Siegel modular form \(F\) of weight \(k+1\) and degree 2 gives by restriction a modular form \(F|_{z=0}=F\begin{pmatrix}\tau &0 \cr 0 & \tau'\end{pmatrix}\) on \({\mathbb H}\times{\mathbb H}\), called the pullback of \(F\) to \({\mathbb H}\times{\mathbb H}\). The main result here is an asymptotic bound on the mass \(N(F_g)\), that is, the ratio of Petersson norm of the pullback \(F_g|_{z=0}\) to that of \(F_g\), normalised by the volumes. Namely if \(g\) is a normalised Hecke eigenform of weight \(2k\) and \(\varepsilon>0\) then \(N(F_g)\ll_\varepsilon k^{1-\frac{1}{120}+\varepsilon}\). In particular this implies the existence of Saito-Kurokawa lifts of nonvanishing mass. The proof uses the results of [\textit{A. Ichino}, Invent. Math. 162, No. 3, 551--647 (2005; Zbl 1188.11020)] and the amplifier method of \textit{H. Iwaniec} and \textit{P. Sarnak} [Ann. Math. (2) 141, No. 2, 301--320 (1995; Zbl 0833.11019)], applied to \(\sum L(\frac{3}{2},F_g)N(F_g)\) rather than directly to \(\sum N(F_g)\).
