The author considers the class \(\mathrm{RRA}^{c}\) of completions of representable relation algebras and the variety \(V\) of relation algebras generated by \(\mathrm{RRA}^{c}\). Problems are raised concerning \(V\): Is \(V= \mathrm{RA}\)? Is \(V\) finitely axiomatizable? Is \(V\) closed under canonical extensions? Is \(V\) closed under completions? etc. It is shown that many finite non-representable relation algebras and every finite Monk algebras with six or more colors are included in \(\mathrm{SRRA}^{c}\), where \(\mathrm{SRRA}^{c}\) is the class of subcompletions of \(\mathrm{RRA}^{c}\). The paper contains a detailed and long introduction to the topic.
