This paper discusses dynamical and ergodic properties of subshifts of finite type associated with random substitutions. Under reasonable conditions the authors show that such systems are topologically transitive, have either empty or dense sets of periodic points, have dense sets of linearly repetitive elements, are rarely uniquely or strictly ergodic, and have positive topological entropy. A variety of examples is presented.
