The paper deals with different notions of expansivity for flows. The main result consists of sufficient conditions for a \(k^*\)-expansive flow (a notion introduced by \textit{M. Komuro} in [``Expansive properties of Lorenz attractors'', in: The theory of dynamical systems and its applications to nonlinear problems. Singapore: World Scientific Publishing Co. 4--26 (1984)]) to be rescaling expansive (a different notion introduced by \textit{X. Wen} and \textit{L. Wen} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 371, No. 5, 3179--3207 (2019; Zbl 1409.37025)]). In the case of a compact metric space, the author shows that a flow is expansive (in the sense of [\textit{A. Katok} and \textit{B. Hasselblatt}, Introduction to the modern theory of dynamical systems. Cambridge: Cambridge Univ. Press (1995; Zbl 0878.58020)]) if and only if its set of fixed points is open and is separating in the sense of \textit{A. A. Gura} [Math. Notes 36, 632--635 (1984; Zbl 0563.58024); translation from Mat. Zametki 36, No. 2, 279--284 (1984)].
