The main result is the Lipschitz continuous dependence on the initial data of solutions of the third order dispersive Novikov equation with cubic nonlinearities. A Finsler type optimal transport metric which renders the solution map Lipschitz continuous on bounded sets of \(H^1(\mathbb R)\cap W^{1,4}(\mathbb R)\) is constructed. However, it is not Lipschitz continuous under the natural Sobolev metric from an energy law due to the finite time gradient blowup. Then, a generic regularity result leads to an extension of the Lipschitz continuous metric to the general weak solutions. This method of constructing the metric can be used to treat other quasilinear equations, provided a good control of the energy concentration is given.
