      The book deals with the differential system \[ U'(x)=zJH(x)U(x),\; x\in (a,b). \eqno(1) \] Here \(z\) is the spectral parameter, \(-\infty\leq a<b\leq\infty\), \[ J=\begin{bmatrix} 0 & -1 \\ 1 & 0 \end{bmatrix},\; H(x)=\begin{bmatrix} H_{11}(x) & H_{12}(x) \\ H_{21}(x) & H_{22}(x) \end{bmatrix},\; U(x)=\begin{bmatrix} u_1(x) \\ u_2(x)\end{bmatrix}, \] where \(H_{ij}(x)\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}}(a,b)\) are real, and \(H(x)\geq 0,\) \(H(x)\neq 0,\) \({\mathrm{trace}} H(x)=1\) a.e. on \((a,b).\) Mostly, the case \(x\in (0,\infty)\) is considered. The Weyl function is used as the main spectral characteristic for system (1). Properties of the Weyl function and the monodromy matrix are established. The main results of the book are related to the inverse problem theory for System (1). The author studies the inverse spectral problem to recover the potential matrix \(H(x)\) either from the given Weyl function or from the monodromy matrix. Conditions on the solvability of these inverse problems are presented. Some applications of the constructed theory are considered.
