The authors are concerned with the uniqueness of the finite element solution to some non-monotone quasilinear elliptic boundary value problems (Dirichlet and mixed) in one and two dimensions. The diffusion coefficient is assumed to be bounded and satisfying a Lipschitz condition. Under a local condition, they establish first a comparison theorem, and then the uniqueness of the solution immediately follows. They completely avoid a global mesh size condition.
