The author studies local derivations and bijective local homomorphisms. Let \(D\) be a division ring with characteristic different from \(2\) and with center \(Z\). Let \(l\in D\) and \(a,m,k\in D\setminus\{0\}\) be fixed. It is shown that (a) if \(f:D\to D\) is an additive map satisfying \(f(x)y+xf(y)=l\) for all \(x,y\in D\) with \(xy=a\), then there is a \(q\in Z\), and a derivation \(d:D\to D\) such that \(f(x)=qx+d(x)\) for all \(x\in D\); (b) if \(g:D\to D\) is a bijective additive map satisfying \(g(x)g(y)=m\) for all \(x,y\in D\) with \(xy=k\), then there is a \(\varphi:D\to D\), which is either an automorphism or an antiautomorphism, such that \(g(x)=g(1)\varphi(x)\) for all \(x\in D\). In (b), \(g(1)\in Z\) if \(\varphi\) is an automorphism, while \(g(1)=g(k)^{-1}m\) with \(g(k)\in Z\) if \(\varphi\) is an antiautomorphism. If \(f\) is derivable at \(a\) in (a) (i.e., \(l=f(a)\)), then \(q=0\), and so \(f=d\), a derivation. The proof of (a) uses a result developed by the author in [Commun. Algebra 46, No. 8, 3430--3435 (2018; Zbl 1391.16027)], where functional identities involving inverses were used.
