The author proves that for the family of bi-degree \((2,2)\) hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb{P}^2 \times \mathbb{P}^3\), a very general member is not stably rational, and the rational members are dense in the Zariski topology. The projection to the first factor gives a quadric surface bundle structure. To prove the irrationality, the authors use the degeneration method of Voisin. To prove rationality, the authors note that it suffices to find integral Hodge classes whose intersection number with the fiber is odd, and use a density criterion of Noether-Lefschetz loci involving a variation of Hodge structure argument. In particular, this article shows that rationality is not a deformation invariant.
