Non-periodic acoustic and electromagnetic, scattering from periodic structures in 3D (Q1672631)

The research reported here is at the interface between scattering theory of non-periodic waves from unbounded structures and the Floquet-Bloch transform, which reduces the study to a family of decoupled periodic scattering problems. In the present paper, the authors analyze a corresponding fully discrete numerical solution algorithm for three-dimensional scattering problems in acoustics and electromagnetics. The main results establish convergence rates under suitable hypotheses on the geometry and the material coefficients. The authors are also interested in the continuous dependence of the family of solutions to the quasi-periodic scattering problems on the quasi-periodicity. In the final part, the authors provide a numerical example in 3D acoustics that illustrates the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
