Approximation and orthogonality in Sobolev spaces on a triangle (Q1675137)

The author studies approximation in the Sobolev spaces \(W_2^r\), \(r\in \mathbb{N}\), on the triangle \(\triangle := \{(x,y) : x, y \geq 0, x+y\leq 1\}\). In a first step, inner products for \(W_2^r\) are defined and their orthogonal polynomials constructed. Using the thusly obtained results, approximation in \(W_2^r\) on \(\triangle\) is investigated.
