\noindent Let \(X\) be a smooth projective irreducible variety over a field \(k.\) Under the assumption that \(\mathrm{CH}_0(X_{k(X)})\otimes {\mathbb Q}\overset{\sim}{\rightarrow}\mathbb Q\) [\textit{S. Bloch} and \textit{V. Srinivas}, Am. J. Math. 105, 1235--1253 (1983; Zbl 0525.14003)] one can associate the torsion order \(\mathrm{Tor}(X)\). This integer is defined to be the smallest multiple of the diagonal of \(X\) appearing in certain cycle-theoretic decomposition [loc. cit.]. The author shows that away from \(\mathrm{char}(k)\) the exponent of the torsion subgroup of the geometric Néron-Severi group of \(X\) divides \(\mathrm{Tor}(X)\) and one has equality when \(X\) is a surface over algebraically closed field \(k\).
