In this paper, the authors present results concerning the ways to overcome difficulties arising in the parametrization of an initial value problem by the best argument. By the best argument, it is meant that the continuation argument for which the vector \( \overline{\alpha} \), given by \[ \overline{\alpha}= ( \frac{dy_{1}}{d\mu},\frac{dy_{2}}{d\mu},\dots,\frac{dy_{m+1}}{d\mu}), \] is the best and it is denoted by \( \lambda \). They introduce a modified argument that is locally equivalent to the best one in the considered domain. Moreover, the conditioning of the parametrized initial value problem in a neighbourhood of each point of its integral curve is examined. All theoretical results are given for a second order ordinary differential equation system with a finite number of limiting singular points.
