The authors study the inactivity time (IT) of absolutely continuous random variables in the sense of [\textit{J. M. Ruiz} and \textit{J. Navarro}, Ann. Inst. Stat. Math. 48, No. 3, 563--572 (1996; Zbl 0925.62059)]. They derive characterization results for certain families of probability distributions based on higher order moments of the respective IT. Furthermore, they derive an inversion formula for certain cumulative distribution functions in terms of moments of the corresponding IT. Finally, characterization results in terms of partial moments of the IT are derived.
