The paper is concerned with the semilinear problem with a Hardy potential \[ -\Delta u -\displaystyle\frac{\mu}{x_1^2}u+u^p=0,\,\,\,\text{in}\,\,\,\mathbb{R}_+^n,\leqno(1) \] where \(p>1\), \(-\infty<\mu<1/4\), and \(\mathbb{R}_+^n=\{x\in\mathbb{R}^n,\,\,x_1>0\}\) is the half-space in \(\mathbb{R}^n\), with \(n\geq 2\). The authors first construct and discuss the \({\mathcal L}_{\mu}\)-harmonics, where \({\mathcal L}_{\mu}:=\Delta+\frac{\mu}{x_1^2}\). They present a detailed characterization of admissible singularities at the origin of separable \({\mathcal L}_{\mu}\)-harmonics which are small or large on the boundary and away from the origin. Then they construct separable solutions for (1) with a strong singularity at the origin that behaves like a small or large \({\mathcal L}_{\mu}\)-harmonic at the boundary, away from the origin, if \(p\) is smaller than \[ p_c:=1+\frac{2}{n-2+\alpha_+}\qquad\text{or}\qquad p_{\mathrm{KO}}:=\begin{cases} +\infty\quad\text{if}\quad \mu\geq 0,\\ 1-\frac{2}{\alpha_-}\quad \text{if}\quad\mu<0, \end{cases} \] respectively, where \(\alpha_{\pm}=\frac{1}{2}\pm\sqrt{\frac{1}{4}-\mu}\). Some nonexistence results for positive solutions of problem (1) are also presented. Finally, for the subcritical values of \(1<p<p_c\), the authors prove the existence of solutions with strong singularities on arbitrary compact subsets of the boundary.
