The Neumann initial-boundary value problem for the chemotaxis system with the, so called, indirect signal production \[ u_t=\Delta u-\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v), \] \[ \Delta v-\frac{1}{|\Omega|}\int_\Omega w(x,t)dx+w=0, \] \[ \tau w_t=\delta w=u, \] is studied in the unit ball \(\Omega\subset{\mathbb R}^2\). The asymptotic behavior of solutions of this system differs much from that for the classical Keller-Segel model (here, with \(\tau=0\)). Namely, for each sufficiently regular initial data \(u_0\), \(w_0\) there exists a classical, global in time solution. For radially symmetric solutions, it is shown that if \(\int_\Omega u_0 dx<8\pi\delta\) then this solution is uniformly bounded, while for each \(\delta\geq 0\) and \(m>8\pi\delta\) there are initial data with solutions blowing up in infinite time: \(\|u(.,t)\|_{L^\infty(\Omega)}\to\infty\) as \(t\to\infty\).
