The authors study the dispersive behavior of waves in a linear oscillator chain, in which each particle (of unit mass) interacts with \(K\) of its neighbors via linear forces. Under the assumption that the dispersion relation satisfies a non-degeneracy condition, they give the asymptotic expansions of the solution in two regions, one where the wave numbers are nondegenerate, and another one where the wave numbers are degenerate. Finally, by analyzing the error terms of the expansions in the overlap region, they obtain a uniform expansion valid in both regions. This work involves the analysis of oscillatory integrals whose asymptotics are related to the Airy function.
