The theory of dendroidal sets generalises the theory of simplicial sets and is the subject of much recent research in algebraic topology. The main difference between the theories is that while simplicial sets are governed by the combinatorics of finite linear orders, dendroidal sets are governed by the combinatorics of finite rooted trees. Extending results from the realm of simplicial sets to dendroidal sets is an important, and typically non-trivial, objective. The article extends the notion of the chain complex associated to a simplicial set, giving rise to homology, to dendroidal sets, thus defining homology for dendroidal sets. A convention for assigning signs in the tree combinatorics, which suitably extends the classical convention is given. The authors show that the resulting functor from dendroidal sets to chain complexes is left Quillen with respect to suitable model structures, relate the homology of a dendroial set \(X\) to that of a spectrum associated to it, and give a few explicit computations.
