For a connected space \(X\), let \(\mathcal{E}(X)\) denote the group of self homotopy equivalences of \(X\) and let \(\mathcal{E}_{\#} (X)\subset \mathcal{E}(X)\) denoe the subgroup of homotopy classes which induce the identity map on \(\pi_*(X)\). In this paper, the author studies the groups \(\mathcal{E}(X^{[n+1]})\) and \(\mathcal{E}_{\#}(X^{[n+1]})\) when \(X\) is a simply connected rational CW complex of finite type and \(X^{[m]}\) denotes the \(m\)-th Postnikov section of \(X\). In particular, he proves that there are two short exact sequences \[ \begin{aligned} & \mathrm{Hom}(\pi_{n+1}(X),H^{n+1}(X^{[n]}, \mathbb{Q}))\rightarrowtail\mathcal{E}(X^{[n+1]})\twoheadrightarrow D^{n+1}_n \\ & \mathrm{Hom}(\pi_{n+1}(X),H^{n+1}(X^{[n]}, \mathbb{Q}))\rightarrowtail\mathcal{E}_{\#}(X^{[n+1]})\twoheadrightarrow G^{n+1}_n \end{aligned} \] by using Sullivan's models in rational homotopy theory, where \(D^{n+1}_n\) denotes the subgroup of \(\mathrm{aut}\mathrm{Hom}(\pi_{n+1}(X),\mathbb{Q})\times \mathcal{E}(X))\) defined in terms of the Whitehead exact sequence of \(X\) and \(G^{n+1}_n\) is a certain subgroup of \(\mathcal{E}_{\#}(X)\). Moreover, he also gives an alternative of the result of \textit{C. Costoya} and \textit{A. Viruel} [Acta Math. 213, No. 1, 49--62 (2014; Zbl 1308.55005)] that every finite group is represented by the group \(\mathcal{E}(X)\) for some rational space \(X\).
