An action of the circle \(S^1\) on a symplectic manifold \((M, \omega)\) is symplectic, if it is an action by symplectomorphisms. The action is Hamiltonian if there exists a moment map, i.e., a map \(\Psi : M \to \mathbb R\) such that \(d\Psi = - \iota_{\xi_M} \omega\), where \(\xi_M\) is the fundamental vector field associated to the canonical generator in the Lie algebra of \(S^1\). Let \((M, \omega)\) be a \(2n\)-dimensional, connected, closed symplectic manifold equipped with an Hamiltonian circle action. Then \(M\) possesses at least \(n+1\) fixed points. A conjecture by McDuff states that every symplectic circle action with isolated fixed points (on a connected, closed symplectic manifold) is necessarily Hamiltonian. The paper under review disproves the conjecture presenting a non-Hamiltonian symplectic circle action on a connected, closed \(6\)-dimensional symplectic manifold, with exactly \(32\) fixed points.
