The paper deals with periodic orbits for Hamiltonian systems on symplectic manifolds. It was remarked in [\textit{V. L. Ginzburg}, The breadth of symplectic and Poisson geometry. Boston: Birkhäuser. 139--172 (2005; Zbl 1062.53002)] that a compactly supported function with sufficiently large variation must have fast non-trivial periodic orbits or even one-periodic orbits under a certain assumption. However, it is known that there is a counterexample to the assertion. Based on this example, the author considers as a symplectic manifold the cotangent bundle of the \(n\)-dimensional torus \(\mathbb{T}^n\). He proves that there exist non-contractible periodic orbits for Hamiltonian systems defined on \(T^*\mathbb{T}^n\) which separate two Lagrangian tori. The authors makes use of Morse-Bott theory. The result answer a question which \textit{V. I. Arnold} asked in [in: Trends and perspectives in applied mathematics. New York: Springer-Verlag. 1--20 (1994; Zbl 0806.53078)].
