The main result in this article is the proof that a finitely generated abelian group \(G\) of finite positive torsion-free rank \(n\) admits an \((n+r)\)-dimensional model for a classifying space \(E_{\mathfrak F_r}G\), where \(\mathfrak F_r\) is the family of subgroups of \(G\) of non-negative torsion-free rank at most \(r< n\). Thus, they extend the results known for the cases of \(n\leq1\), i.e., finite and virtually cyclic subgroups. Here, for a collection \(\mathfrak F\) of subgroups of \(G\) closed under conjugation and taking subgroups, a classifying space \(E_{\mathfrak F}G\) is a \(G\)-CW-complex \(X\) such that for each subgroup \(H\) of \(G\), then \(X^H\) is contractible if \(H\in\mathfrak F\) and \(X^H=\emptyset\) otherwise. For the proof, the authors use the method used in [\textit{W. Lück} and \textit{M. Weiermann}, Pure Appl. Math. Q. 8, No. 2, 497--555 (2012; Zbl 1258.55011)] to inductively build models for \(E_{\mathfrak F_r}G\) from models for \(E_{\mathfrak F_{r-1}}G\).
