Motivated by the results in [\textit{A. Givental}, Topics in singularity theory. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (1997; Zbl 0895.32006)] and [\textit{K. Rietsch}, Adv. Math. 217, No. 6, 2401--2442 (2008; Zbl 1222.14107)], this paper studies tropical critical points of the superpotential functions of flag varieties. One can associate various polytopes to an irreducible representation \(\rho\) of \(G = \mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{C})\) such that the integral points on these polytopes parametrize a basis for \(\rho\). A well-known example is the Gelfand-Zetlin polytopes which attracted increasing interest in recent years among symplectic geometers and representation theorists [\textit{V. Kiritchenko}, Transform. Groups 22, No. 2, 387--402 (2017; Zbl 1396.14047)]. One way to construct these polytopes is through the tropicalization of superpotential associated to flag variety \(G/B\) from the Landau-Ginzburg model in mirror symmetry. As Rietsch showed in [loc. cit.], this approach requires interpretation of critical points of superpotential in terms of the quantum cohomology of the original flag variety. Inspired by these results, the author defines tropical critical points for superpotential functions and shows with respect to certain highest weight maps these points are unique. He uses tropical critical point to find a canonical point in each polytope. Then he investigates highest weights for which tropical critical point is integral and therefore corresponds to a basis vector of the corresponding representation \(\rho\). Finally, Jamie uses Borel-Weil theory and constructs a distinguished vector in representation \(\rho\) and interprets tropical critical points in terms of these vectors. The paper concludes with conjecturing that tropical critical points are in 1-to-1 correspondence with distinguished vectors.
