Isidore of Seville (560--636) compiled his \textit{Etymologies} at the beginning of the seventh century. This work became the most known encyclopedia in medieval mathematics. It gave a summarized description of the `quadrivium' (that means four mathematical sciences: arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy) as understood at that time. The authors investigate what sources Isidore might have used when he wrote his \textit{Etymologies} (Euclid's \textit{Elements}, the model of music by Plato, Claudius Ptolemy's model of the universe and others).
