In this paper, the authors propose two ways to recover the function value, derivative and high-order derivatives at a symmetric point. In one-dimension case, the basic idea is to first construct piecewise one-sided \(L^2\) projections or interpolations, then use them to construct a polynomial function over the whole interval centered at the symmetric point, and finally the recovered function value and derivatives at the symmetric point are obtained by the global polynomial and its derivatives directly. In two-dimension case, the function values and derivatives are recovered in each direction. The paper does not discuss the recover of mixed derivatives. Numerical examples are provided and shown to have superconvergent recovered function values and derivatives. The authors also apply the superconvergent recovery method to reconstruct more accurate solutions and their derivatives from the numerical solutions of both one-dimensional and two-dimensional finite element methods.
