The goal of the paper under discussion is to describe the splitting patterns under purely inseparable field extensions \(L/F\) of the groups \(H_p^n(F)\) (the ``Kato-Milne cohomology groups''), \(\Omega_F^n\) and \(\nu_n(F)\) for fields \(F\) of positive characteristic \(p\). For example, the author proves (Theorem 3.4) that if \(L=F[\sqrt[p]{\beta_1},\dots,\sqrt[p]{\beta_\ell}]\) and a class \(\omega \in H_p^n(F)\) has trivial restriction to \(L\), then \(\omega=\sum_{i=1}^\ell \omega_i \wedge d \beta_i\) where \(\omega_i \in \Omega_F^{n-2}\) for each \(i \in \{1,\dots,\ell\}\). (This generalizes Proposition 2 from [\textit{R. Aravire} and \textit{A. Laghribi}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 141, No. 12, 4191--4197 (2013; Zbl 1283.11065)]). A more general result, treating roots of non-prime powers, is also proven (Theorem 3.14). The author then uses the renowned theorems of Kato's to obtain similar results for the Witt group of quadratic forms \(W_q F\) and the Witt ring of symmetric bilinear forms \(W F\) for fields \(F\) of characteristic 2.
