The goal of this paper is to use a relaxed stabilizer in the weak Galerkin (WG) method to provide an improved approximation to the low regularity solution for a second order elliptic equation with a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. The paper is organized as follows. The first section is an antroduction. In Section 2, the definition of weak gradient and its discrete approximation is recalled, and then an over-relaxed WG approximation is presented. In Section 3, WG error in energy norm is estimated and some key inequalities are presented. In Section 4, error estimates in \(L_p\) and \(L_2\) norms are derived by a dual argument. In the last section, some numerical experiments are presented including three low-regularity problems to show the effectiveness and convergence rates of the over-relaxed WG method.
