The following nonlinear problem is considered: \(-\Delta u + \lambda |u|^{2p}u=f\) in \(\Omega\), \(u=0\) on \(\partial \Omega\), where \(\Omega\) is an open polygon in \(\mathbb R^2\), \(\lambda\) and \(p\) are two positive real numbers. The right-hand side \(f\) belongs to the dual space \(H^{-1}(\Omega)\) of the Sobolev space \(H_0^{1}(\Omega)\). The given problem is discretized by standard finite elements and two iterative schemes to solve the discrete problem are proposed. The well-posedness of the corresponding problems and their convergence are proved. Error indicators are constructed and optimal a posteriori estimates are proved, where the discretization and linearization errors are treated separately. Some numerical experiments confirm the validity of the schemes and allow to compare them.
