Connectedness Bertini theorem via numerical equivalence (Q1707383)

The authors show (in arbitrary characteristic) how to obtain the Bertini theorem and the Fulton-Hansen connectedness theorem from the generalized Hodge index theorem for smooth projective variaties. To apply it to integral projective varieties in arbitrary characteristic without using resolution of singularities they use a regular alteration.
