The authors investigate the second-order integro-differential equation \[ \displaystyle\frac{d^2u}{dt^2}+A^2u-\displaystyle\int_0^tK(t-s)A^2u(s)\,ds=f(t),\,\,\,t\in\mathbb{R}_+=(0,\infty),\leqno(1) \] with the initial conditions \[ u(0+)=\varphi_0,\,\,\,u^{(1)}(0+)=\varphi_1,\leqno(2) \] in a separable Hilbert space \(H\), where \(A\) is a self-adjoint positive operator (\(A^*=A\)) that acts on \(H\) and has a compact inverse, the scalar function \(K(t)\) can be represented as \(K(t)=\sum_{j=1}^{\infty}c_jR_j(t)\), with \(c_j>0\), \(j\in\mathbb{N}\), and \(R_j(t)\) are fractional exponential functions. They present some results for the well-posedness of problem \((1)-(2)\) in weighted Sobolev spaces on the positive half-line, and for the localization of the spectrum for the operator function \(L(\lambda)\) obtained by applying the Laplace transform to equation \((1)\) with homogeneous initial conditions.
