Let \(\Omega \subset \mathbb C^n\), \(n \geq 3\), be a pseudoconvex domain with a \(\mathcal C^\infty\) strictly plurisubharmoinic exhaustion \(\rho: \Omega \to (-\infty, \infty)\). By a result of [\textit{J. E. Fornæss} et al., Math. Z. 273, No. 1--2, 589--604 (2013; Zbl 1267.32006)], for any sublevel subset \(K_{\leq a} := \{\rho \leq a\}\), a Hartogs-type extension result for holomorphic line bundles holds. Namely it is known that for any holomorphic line bundle over \(\Omega \setminus K_{\leq a}\), there exists an extended holomorphic bundle over \(\Omega\), unique up to an isomorphism. The first result of this paper consists in a useful gluing lemma for pairs of holomorphic vector bundles on overlapping open subsets \(\mathcal U\), \(\mathcal V \subset\mathbb C^n\), coinciding (up to a bundle isomorphism) on the intersection \(\mathcal U \cap \mathcal V\). Using such a lemma the author is then able to prove that, for any \(n \geq 2\), there are counterexamples to the above theorem for compact subsets that are not sublevel sets of exhaustions. More precisely, he proves that there exist compact subsets \(K \subset B^n\) in the unit ball of \(\mathbb C^n\) and non trivial holomorphic line bundle on the complement \(B^n \setminus K\) admitting no extension to any holomorphic line bundle over \(B^n\).
