An immersion \(x:M\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^{3}\) is Bonnet if there is a noncongruent immersion \(\widetilde{x}:M\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{3}\) such that their induced metrics and mean curvatures are equal. The \(\widetilde{x}\) is called a Bonnet mate of \(x\). The authors present sufficient conditions for a smooth immersion \(x:M\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^{3}\) with nonconstant mean curvature of a compact, connected surface to have no Bonnet mate.
