Separability idempotents in \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras (Q1711404)

Summary: In this paper, we study the notion of a separability idempotent in the \(C^{\ast}\)-algebra framework. This is analogous to the notion in the purely algebraic setting, typically considered in the case of (finite-dimensional) algebras with identity, then later also considered in the multiplier algebra framework by the second-named author [\textit{A. Van Daele} and \textit{S.-H. Wang}, Banach Cent. Publ. 98, 367--415 (2012; Zbl 1267.16030); J. Reine Angew. Math. 705, 155--209 (2015; Zbl 1343.16028)]. The current work was motivated by the appearance of such objects in the authors' ongoing work on locally compact quantum groupoids.
