This paper studies optimal control of a non-autonomous SEIRS model with vaccination and treatment as control variables. In this model, incidence is given by a general function of the infective, susceptible and total population. The existence of optimal solutions is investigated. With the help of Pontryagin's minimum principle, the authors characterize the optimal controls of the SEIRS model. A result concerning uniqueness of the optimal control is also presented. Some numerical solutions are provided to illustrate the theoretical results. The autonomous model and the corresponding periodic model as well as the controlled model and the corresponding uncontrolled models are compared via simulations.
