Summary: We introduce a general iteration method for a finite family of generalized asymptotically quasi-nonexpansive mappings. The results presented in the paper extend and improve some recent results in the works by \textit{N. Shahzad} and \textit{A. Udomene} [Fixed Point Theory Appl. 2006, No. 1, Article 18909, 10 p. (2006; Zbl 1102.47055)], \textit{Q. Liu} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 259, No. 1, 1--7 (2001; Zbl 1033.47047)] and \textit{A. R. Khan} et al. [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 341, No. 1, 1--11 (2008; Zbl 1137.47053)] .
