Let \(\phi\) be a spherical Hecke-Masß cusp form on the non-compact space \(\mathrm{PGL}_3(\mathbb{Z}) \setminus \mathrm{PGL}_3(\mathbb{R}) \). In the paper under review, the authors establish various pointwise upper bounds for \(\phi\) in terms of its Laplace eigenvalue \(\lambda_{\phi}\). These imply, for \(\phi\) arithmetically normalized and tempered at the Archimedean place, the bound \[ \| \phi \|_{\infty} \ll_{\epsilon} \lambda_{\phi}^{39/40+\varepsilon} \] for the global sup-norm (without restriction to a compact subset). On the way, they derive a new uniform upper bound for the \(\mathrm{GL}_3\) Jacquet-Whittaker function. The proofs are based on two very different methods. On the one hand, they estimate the Fourier-Whittaker expansion of \(\phi\) termwise. Unlike the rank-one case \(n = 2\), the fact that the group of upper-triangular unipotent \(3 \times 3\) matrices is not commutative leads to an additional sum over an infinite subset of \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})\) which requires a careful treatment. As a result of independent interest and as a contribution to the analytic theory of higher rank Whittaker functions, they provide a new uniform upper bound for the \(\mathrm{GL}_3\) Jacquet-Whittaker function. The paper is well organized and clearly written.
