The authors investigate the stress behavior between two close to touching hard elastic inclusions $D_1, D_2\subset \mathbb{R}^2$. They are simply connected bounded domains with $C^4$-smooth boundary. Using the Lamé operator of the linear isotropic elasticity, the author consider the following boundary value problems: \[ \mathcal{L}_{\lambda,\mu}\mathbf{u}=0\ \text{in}\ \Omega\setminus \overline{D_1\cup D_2}, \quad \mathbf{u}=\sum_{j=1}^3 c_{ij}\Psi_j(\mathbf{x})\ \text{on}\ \partial D_i,\ i=1,2,\quad \mathbf{u}=\mathbf{g}\ \text{on}\ \partial \Omega, \] with a bounded domain $\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ containing $D_1, D_2$, $\text{dist}\,(\partial\Omega,D_1\cup D_2)\ge C 0$, whereas \[ \begin{gathered} \Psi_1(\mathbf{x})=\begin{bmatrix} 1\\ 0 \end{bmatrix},\quad \Psi_2(\mathbf{x})=\begin{bmatrix} 0\\ 1 \end{bmatrix}, \quad \Psi_3(\mathbf{x})=\begin{bmatrix} -y\\ x \end{bmatrix};\\ \mathcal{L}_{\lambda,\mu}\mathbf{u}=0\ \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^2\setminus \overline{D_1\cup D_2}, \\ \mathbf{u}=\sum_{j=1}^3 d_{ij}\Psi_j(\mathbf{x})\ \text{on}\ \partial D_i,\ i=1,2,\\ \mathbf{u(x)}-\mathbf{H(x)}=O(|\mathbf{x}|^{-1})\ \text{as}\ |\mathbf{x}|\to \infty, \end{gathered} \] with a given function $\mathbf{H}$ satisfying $\mathcal{L}_{\lambda,\mu}\mathbf{H}=0\ \in \mathbb{R}^2$; and an exterior problem \[ \mathcal{L}_{\lambda,\mu}\mathbf{v}=0\ \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^2\setminus \overline{D_1\cup D_2},\quad \mathbf{v}=\mathbf{g}\ \text{on}\ \partial D_1\cup \partial D_2. \] The authors construct singular functions characterizing the behavior of stress in a narrow region as solutions of the Lamé system.
