After providing some background on classical complex polyanalytic functions and on slice hyperholomorphic functions, the authors extend the definition of slice hyperholomorphic functions to higher order and define slice polyanalytic functions \(f\) of a quaternionic variable. For such \(f\) on a domain contained in the quaternions a Splitting Lemma is proved which enables a characterization for \(f\) on slice domains. Taking inspiration from \textit{F. Colombo} et al. [Entire slice regular functions. Cham: Springer (2016; Zbl 1372.30001)] the authors provide on slice domains results of slice regular functions extended to a higher order including counterparts of the identity principle, representation formula, extension lemma and the refined splitting lemma for slice polyanalytic functions. The Fock space of slice polyanalytic functions on quaternions is introduced in Section 4 of the paper, and a reproducing kernel is derived. In Section 5 the slice polyanalytic Bergman space of the second kind on the quaternionic unit ball B is defined and a reproducing kernel for it is derived. The paper is well written, and also notes some questions for future research.
