Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field of characteristic $p$, and let $W_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$ be the ring of Witt vectors of length two over $\mathbb{F}_q$. Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a reductive group scheme over $\mathbb{Z}$ such that $p$ is very good for the geometrically connected reductive group $\mathbb{G}_{\mathbb{F}_q}:=\mathbb{G} \times_{\operatorname{Spec} \mathbb{Z}} {\operatorname{Spec} \mathbb{F}_q}$. The main result is that for each $d\geq1$ the groups $\mathbb{G}(\mathbb{F}_q [t] / t^2)$ and $\mathbb{G}(W_2(\mathbb{F}_q))$ have the same number of complex irreducible representations of dimension $d$. Equivalently, there exists an isomorphism of group algebras $\mathbb{C} [\mathbb{G}(\mathbb{F}_q [t] / t^2)] \cong \mathbb{C} [\mathbb{G}(W_2(\mathbb{F}_q))]$. There are also results for the situation that $p$ is not very good. An irreducible representation of $\mathbb{G}(\mathbb{F}_q [t] / t^2)$ or $\mathbb{G}(W_2(\mathbb{F}_q))$ may be restricted to an elementary abelian normal subgroup isomorphic to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ of $\mathbb{G}_{\mathbb{F}_q}$. One now uses Clifford theory and geometric properties of the coadjoint action of $\mathbb{G}_{\mathbb{F}_q}$ on the dual of $\mathfrak g$.
